The older one of the Kaneiki brothers. He has a particular aesthetic sense and loves beautiful things; therefore, he values "treasures" highly. He has a unique power known as Destruction.

The main protagonist of Paradise Destroyed, along with his younger brother Bel.

Cai is boisterous and loud, generally feeling that he is above those around him and deserves to obtain anything that he desires. This does not make him unkind to others, though; he usually approaches others’ situations with a detached curiosity, and will help them if they ask. He is especially soft when it comes to others’ treasures, putting in great effort to recover them, as he knows how important his own treasures are to him. He is better with actions than emotions, often not knowing how to best comfort others or be sensitive to their situations.

He is a piece of God, created in order to destroy espers and return their energy to God. When he returns from Paradise to Earth, however, Bel comes to bring him home. Cai has no memory of Bel, though reacts to Bel telling him that he’s his younger brother. Though he intends to kill Bel in order to harvest his energy, recognizing him as an esper, his body does not allow him, and the two begin to live together again, with Cai puzzling over the two missions battling inside of him: to destroy, or to fulfill his duty as an older brother.

When Bel is attacked one day while gathering food, Cai initially intends to leave him to die until a strong impulse to protect his younger brother strikes him, shattering his connection to his role as a Destroyer. He vows that as long as he leads Bel along the right path, everything will work out, and the two develop the relationship they had for the next 15 years.

In the present day, Cai hunts treasure along with Bel, stealing from others in order to develop their own collection.

Bel Kaneiki

Cai’s younger brother. Though as an avatar of destruction Cai has no physical relation to Bel, the feelings associated with his body dictate that he must protect Bel as his older brother, and this desire is strong enough to overwrite his mission to destroy. Though Cai is clumsy with his words and does not always express to Bel how important he is to him, he often worries about how Bel is doing and whether or not he will be able to forge his own path in the world. He has confidence in his own power to protect Bel, and will exert his full strength in order to make sure that Bel is safe, but he does not notice that when he speaks of his strength, he is only causing Bel extreme distress at his own perceived powerlessness.

Butterfly

Cai finds Butterfly to be amusing, and largely humors his thoughts and behavior. The one thing Cai will not allow is when Butterfly pokes at Bel too much; such is enough to incite a threat from even the usually mild-mannered Cai.

His name is based off of Cain from the Bible: カイン, kain.
His favorite things are Bel, beautiful things, and tasty things.
He hates things that get in his way.
His favorite foods are meat and vegetables.
He doesn’t have any least favorite foods.
Though his actual birthday, along with Butterfly, is on April 1st, it is celebrated on June 6th to match the day that the original Cai was born.
