The creator of Paradise, which they created in order to gather energy from espers so that they could gain enough power to get revenge on their older brother, who they had gotten into a fight with. They are capable of seeing the world and interacting with it long-distance using their Observer, Butterfly, who they periodically possess throughout the game in order to speak to others.

Personality

God is haughty and self-important, believing themselves to be a perfect, complete being and showing disdain for those they deem to be incomplete. They find it difficult to understand mortals and their feelings, so they often say things that would be considered unnecessarily cruel, even though they do not perceive it as such. They are quick to anger and will lash out if others are not responding in a way they find favorable.

There are often times where they will act in a way that feels charitable or kind to them, such as offering someone a way to reduce their pain, without realizing that it actually causes them greater pain to hear. In this way, they are not usually overtly malicious, but can be dismissive of or detached from others’ feelings.

Background + Story

They abruptly awoke in the universe alongside another being. However, as they gained consciousness a second after the other being, it was deemed that they were the younger brother, and their companion was the older brother, because they both came from the same “mother”—the universe. As they travelled through the universe, they became aware of other worlds and stars, living and dying, and that there were those in existence who were both less and more powerful than they were. Their older brother thought that humans were interesting, and wanted to create one of their own in order to raise it, but they thought that mortal beings, with their short lifespans, were inferior and boring. Their older brother was very curious, always asking questions, but they didn’t care very much about other beings, seeing their own selves as superior.

At one point in their travels, another being appears as a white orb and tells them that the role they were created for was to create and destroy stars, making sure that the cycle keeps moving and doesn’t remain stagnant, and that they were never meant to gain consciousnesses of their own. The being told them to give up their individuality and return to being part of the universe, fulfilling their roles and nothing else. The younger brother rebelled, saying they didn’t care about the universe, but the older brother was worried about the state of the universe and agreed to fulfill their role. The younger brother yells at them for being willing to return to nothingness, but the older brother doesn’t consider it to be nothing; they would just be part of a greater whole, and they love the beings that live in the universe. The younger brother yells that they cannot forgive their older brother for their decision, and vows to return and destroy them both.

Their goal was ultimately to, after taking revenge on their older brother, destroy the universe and worlds of all the other gods and create a new world from nothing.

After their brother betrays them and their power is sealed, God ends up floating through the universe in the form of a meteorite. They are unable to use the power of creation in that form, so they head into another world, one that emanates power, to find a body there instead. After landing on Earth in the form of a meteorite and knocking into Cai, God steals his body. Needing a place to rest, they create Paradise, heading into it.

They use Cai’s body to form a new one for themself, as well as using Cai’s organs and feet to build bodies for the Destroyer and Observer respectively, giving them pieces of their own soul. They order the Destroyer to seek out espers and destroy them, bringing the energy back to God, and the Observer to scout the world for those with power and report back to them. They then give Cai the power to stop time for himself, allowing him to continue living as long as he stayed in his room.

When meeting with Cai and Butterfly on their return to God’s world, God is impatient at their absence, telling them that they were just parts of their soul and to return to their intended roles already. These were the same words that the white orb had thrown at God and their brother, which ended up causing their rift, but God seems unaware of this parallel. Cai is furious with them for what they did to Bel, but God feels that it’s rude to accuse them; they just took pity on a being who was in pain due to their attachment to another being. God sees it as them having saved Bel from dying instead.

When Cai and Butterfly run off instead of completing the mission that God set out for them, God mutters that it must be the fault of the instability from being made from a human body; just one reason why they hate incomplete beings.
