The creator of the World of Religion. The founder of the religion that the church centers around. He gathers as much money as he can from the populace, so they are always struggling.

It is hard to discern Temple’s personality as the creator of the World, as he often puts on a persona. He generally presents as gentle but demanding, speaking kindly to his followers but always requesting more money so that they could connect with God. When Cai and the others escape, he barks out orders to the others at the church to go after them. He seems confident, almost arrogant, in his ability to defeat anyone using the power of God.

In the past, Temple was kind to the point of being self-sacrificing, giving up even the little food he had to the local hungry children. When Diantha’s godly power awakened, he used it to perform healing miracles on the populace for free, only asking for their participation in the church. However, as this kindness backfired when he was forced into debt, he realized that he could no longer be as kind as he wanted to be, and his old personality ceased to be seen. When in the bonus dungeon, he is calm at first, but very skittish and easily anxious, disliking conflict.

Temple owned a small church in a poor area of town. He would often hand bread to the children who lived in the town even when he himself didn’t have much to eat because it made him happy to share things with others. Diantha scolded him, not understanding why he would be so self-sacrificing when the others in the town weren’t of any use to him, unable to read his holy texts and knowing nothing about his religion. Temple, however, just wanted to make everyone’s life a little bit easier in whatever way he could, even if he was too poor to make a big impact. Even though his actions annoyed her, Diantha would step in and try to make sure that he didn’t overburden himself.

However, officials began coming after him for showing favor towards those who lived in the slums, accusing him of only helping them in exchange for things like sexual favors. He protested that he didn’t, saying that he only wanted to save the people there, and that the church was a place that anyone could enter, regardless of where they lived. The officials lashed out at him, calling him a blasphemer of the local religion and of God. When Diantha confronts them, they run away. She then turns to Temple, snapping that he needs to fight instead of being a doormat, and he protests that he doesn’t want to instigate violence. He would rather give up his own self to protect others than use it for harm. This infuriates Diantha, and the resulting emotional spike triggers her to awaken as an esper. Temple sees it as a miracle from God.

Temple starts using Diantha’s new power to heal people coming to the church from maladies they couldn’t recover from otherwise. He asks nothing in return but to come to church and learn God’s words. He feels bad about acting like it’s him who heals them, rather than Diantha, but she says that when it comes from him, you can really tell that he wants to help people. She also thinks that more people will come to be ‘saved’ if he is the face of it, rather than someone from the slums like herself. She still thinks that Temple is too kind, though; he should be asking for money from those who are healed, since he needs it to keep the church running. Temple reassures her that it will be fine. She warns him that it will come crashing down eventually.

A lawyer then comes into the church, giving Temple an eviction notice. The two move to another room to speak privately, and the lawyer says that he’s being evicted on the grounds that the church land is being used improperly. The one who initially rented the land to him is withdrawing it. His options are either to vacate the facility or pay 5,000,000,000 enn. The lawyer leaves, and Diantha comes in, saying he looks unwell. Temple tells her that he will protect this place, which doesn’t discriminate between residents of the surface or underground. And so, when people next visit the church, asking for his healing, he tells them that they must give everything up, because God said so.

Temple grows fixated on obtaining more and more money in order to protect the church, feeling that as long as he had it, he could save everyone. He begins to deny healing to people on the basis that they haven’t given up enough to the church, though apologizes to Diantha for causing such a fuss. She tells him that he’s changed for the worse, but that she will watch his decline until its end. He and Diantha would gather wild vegetables together from the mountains to eat even when he was focused on accumulating money, since he did not want to spend it on food.

After seeing how he tricked his followers into giving up everything for him and applauding him, she confronts him, asking where his past self went. He says that it’s for everyone’s sake, because like this, he’s able to protect their church. She says that she cannot follow him anymore and commits suicide. The official harassing him comes again, telling him that he deserved what came to him, because he’d been using Diantha’s abilities to trick people out of their money, and that the Paradise sentence would be awaiting him.

Temple gathers his followers and tells them that God has died, and that they would be following them. He tells them all to drink poison, but that everyone who still had a reason to live after God’s death should leave. Everyone does, and he drinks it alone. Diantha’s spirit appears to save him, giving him her abilities, and as the official returns again, Temple is taken in by the police for being an esper. Because people died as a result of him taking everything they owned, he was considered a murderer and given the Paradise sentence.

As he stands in his cell, God approaches him, telling him to reveal his true desires. Temple says that if he just had more money, he wouldn’t have lost everything, and they grant him his world.

In Paradise, he forms a world that centers around the accumulation of money in the name of religion. The nature of the world drives his desire ever further, and in his immense focus on obtaining money from his church’s followers, he is completely unaware of what his followers sometimes do to obtain enough money to meet his requests.

His church is decorated with stained glass that depicts Diantha to honor her. He has no idea that she is the Core of his world, existing in the world and acting against him.

When the party comes to speak with him, he doesn’t initially recognize them, but as Cai activates his power of Destruction to threaten him, Temple is extremely surprised. When he realizes that Cai is God’s Destroyer, though he’s lost his memories, Temple plans to capture him to give to God as an offering.

Diantha

A woman who Temple loved. They are very attached to each other, unable to abandon the other and considering each other to be family. She initially loved how kind and giving he was, even though she found it foolish how he would give so much of himself up for others, but when he became focused on obtaining money from others, she killed herself in front of him so that he would not abuse her power any more. The reality of her death tore him apart, and he tried to kill himself by drinking poison, but he heard her voice telling him not to die yet, and then awakened an ability.

Temple’s real name is Jim (ジム). After returning to the real world in the secret end, he resumes going by this name.
His favorite things are reading, exercising, praying, cleaning, cooking, and, later on, accumulating money.
He hates debt collectors.
His favorite foods are fish dishes, wild vegetables, rice porridge, and bread.
He doesn’t have any least favorite foods.
